Public School Choice/Intradistrict Transfer for 2019-2020
Georgia House Bill 251 provides an Intradistrict transfer option to students when a school within their system has additional classroom space available within a particular school. This option does not apply to Hart County considering the district is a charter system. However, the system does offer parents the opportunity to request a transfer of schools at the elementary level following the process described below.
As a parent or guardian, you can request to have your child transferred to another public school within the school district of residence as long as the school district has determined that there is available classroom space at the school after all assigned students have been enrolled. If you choose to transfer your child to another school within the district, the law requires you to assume all costs and responsibilities related to the transportation of your child to and from the school as long as your child remains at that school.
Transfer requests will be reviewed and approved or denied on the basis of a lottery in the event a particular school has available space and the number of transfer requests exceeds the remaining available capacity. Once available classroom space is reached at a school, no more transfers will be accepted at that school. Since it is possible that you may not receive your first choice, you may indicate more than one choice on the enclosed Transfer Request Form. In order to process your request and be considered in the first lottery drawing for any available spaces, you will need to complete and submit the ‘Transfer Request Form’ by the close of business on July 16, 2019. You will be notified of the status (approved or denied) of your request no later than the twentieth day of school.
The following schools and grade levels within those schools currently have space for transfers:
- Hartwell Elementary-All Grade Levels
- North Hart Elementary-All Grade Levels
- South Hart Elementary-All Grade Levels
