Katherine Tucker, DAR Essay Winner
Katherine Tucker, 11th grade student at Hart County High School, is the county winner of the Christopher Columbus Essay Contest.
The Christopher Columbus Essay Contest is sponsored by the DAR and held each academic year in honor of Christopher Columbus. The contest is open to all high school students (grades 9-12). Entries are judged for the following: historical accuracy, adherence to the topic, organization of materials, interest, originality, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and neatness.
Each participating DAR chapter submits a winning essay for district judging. A state winner will be announced who will then advance to the divisional level where one winner will be selected as the national winner. The national winner will be invited to read his or her essay at the National Columbus Day celebration in Washington, DC.
Katherine will be recognized at the DAR's monthly meeting. She is the daughter of Terry and April Tucker.
