About the Assistant Superintendent

Mrs. Lydia Bennett, Assistant Superintendent

A Martin, Georgia native, Mrs. Lydia Bennett brings 25 years of experience in education to her new role as Assistant Superintendent. She holds multiple degrees including a B.A. in Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in Autism and Emotional/Behavior Disorders, and an Education Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, all of which were obtained at Piedmont College.

Beginning her career as a Special Education Teacher for emotional/behavior disordered students and students with special needs, Mrs. Bennett has previously served as a Program Coordinator for Georgia Network for Educational and Therapeutic Support (GNETS) Facility, Assistant Principal, Principal, and now in her current role as Assistant Superintendent. Most recently, she served as the Principal of Hartwell Elementary School.

Residing in Lavonia, Georgia, Mrs. Bennett enjoys boating, reading, cooking, and traveling in her free time. She is married to Bern Bennett, Jr., and has two children, Tre and Abby, as well as six pets.
