• back to school red school house 2017-2018 - Welcome back to school.  Please visit this website for upcoming events and exciting news about the happenings in our class.  See the table below our class announcements for the dates of upcoming community based instruction outings.

  • The students are enjoying reading "The Hobbit."  Please ask them about their favorite characters.  Students will be working on informational writing this week and next week.  Students will be correctly writing recipes.  Students will also be writing step-by-step directions for assembly of craft items.

  • 10/23:  We will finish reading "Les Miserables" this week.  The students will finish ongoing writing assignments about the traits of their favorite characters.  Students will also finish their "How I am Feeling" episode analysis chart featuring different events that occurred within the book.  In Social Studies, we are learning about first amendment rights and traits of good workers.  We will work at Brown Nursing Home on Wednesday.  We are reading about local fall events as featured within Georgia Magazines and our local newspaper.  Students will prepare a special fall treat for snack later this week.   We are looking forward to seeing the scarecrows downtown on Friday and voting for our favorite.

  • Week of 9/18:  During our shopping trip, students will purchase food items to prepare a meal on Friday.  The students are working on creating shopping lists and budgets.  On Friday, the class will prepare mini-pizzas, pasta salad, tossed salad and chocolate oatmeal  cookies.  We are still reading the novel "Les Misserables."  In Social Studies, we are learning about first amendment rights.

  • Week of 8/28:  We will begin reading an adapted version of the novel "Les Miserables." Our class will also watch excerpts from the movie about this novel and listen to songs from the musical.  Students are working on measurement skills during cooking opportunities.  We are creating shopping lists and budgets from local sales papers to advance our understanding of various money concepts.  We will cook a special meal on Friday.

  • 8/7/17 - Current Events:  The newspaper for this week is about the upcoming eclipse.  We will be reading, writing and researching information about the eclipse this week.  The upcoming eclipse will continue to be a topic for learning and discussion between now and the big day.  This week, students will also participate in hands-on learning tasks and quizes that will allow them to show what they remember in all content areas.
