HCMS to host Information and Registration Sessions for Rising 6th Graders

Hart County Middle School is inviting rising 6th grade students and parents to attend an information and registration session for the upcoming school year. The purpose of the session is to provide information about programs at the middle school, register for 6th grade classes, and offer parents an opportunity to ask questions.

New for the 2017-2018 school year, Hart County Middle School will provide three program options to meet the needs of all students. All three options will provide college and career preparation to ensure that students are ready for high school and beyond. Students and parents will work with the child’s current 5th grade teachers to choose the best option.

Meetings will be held at the three elementary schools on the dates specified below. Students and parents can attend the meeting that best suits their schedule if they’re not able to attend the meeting held at the school in which they’re enrolled.

The new program options at the middle school are a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) program, a Move on When Ready (MOWR) program, and a College and Career (CCP) program. Each program leads to multiple options at the high school based on the student’s performance while at the middle school.

Middle School Programs

  1. The STEM program will provide instruction focused on problem solving in all academic areas.  Students will work on projects throughout the year that focus on collaboration and critical thinking skills.  Students will have an extended period for research each day along with an Engineering class that will last all year.  Minimum requirements for the STEM program are listed on the other side of this letter.  Students must apply online and have shown interest in STEM activities while in elementary school. Fifty (50) students meeting the minimum criteria will be randomly selected for this program.
  2. The MOWR program will work in conjunction with the high school and the State of Georgia’s MOWR program, which allows qualifying students to take college level courses while in high school.  Minimum requirements for the MOWR program are listed on the other side of this letter.  Fifty (50) students will be chosen for this program based on the listed criteria.
  3. The CCP program will focus on preparing all students for high school by providing instruction tailored to their needs.  Students in this program will take part in the traditional middle school course sequence. Based on performance in classes and on Georgia Milestones, students can qualify for high school courses in 8th grade and all programs at the high school.
