Adam Ellis Places 2nd in State HVAC Competition
Adam Ellis, Hart County High School junior, recently represented the Hart College and Career Academy by winning 1st place at the Georgia Region II Competition in the field of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC).
The Georgia Region II Competition was held at North Georgia Technical College and is one of many opportunities for student growth through SkillsUSA, a national Career Technical Student Organization. Contestants in the HVAC competition were evaluated on brazing skills, low/high voltage testing, and trouble-shooting as well as a written assessment.
This is only the 2nd time Mr. Carey’s class has entered the competition since adding the HVAC course just three years ago.
On March 25, 2017, Adam won 2nd place in the state HVAC SkillsUSA Competition in Atlanta. He received DeWalt tools, Klein tools, Milwaukee tools, and an $8,000 scholarship for receiving 2nd place.
“I am very proud of this young man and the many others who have spent time with me in our construction class,” said Instructor Mr. Mike Carey. “Should he choose to follow this path of construction after high school or continue his education in one related, there is no doubt, Adam will succeed and become a vital part of the industry. Bringing real-life skills to my classroom, that’s how they learn and succeed!”
Adam is the first student from Hart County High School to advance to the state level competition for HVAC. He is the son of Bryan and Angela Ellis.
SkillsUSA is a national Career Technical Student Organization provides students with quality educational experiences in leadership, teamwork, citizenship, and character development. The organization builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes, and communication skills.
